General Interest

General
Jamaica are still hunting their first Olympic gold medal in the women's 4x400m relay, having won silver at the last three editions of the Games. They actually crossed the line in third place at the Games in 2008 and 2012, but were upgraded to the silver medal for Beijing in 2016 and for London in 2017 after the Russian Federation were disqualified from both Games for anti-doping violations.

At the 2016 Games, the Jamaicans crossed the line 1.28s behind the victorious US team and more than five seconds ahead of Great Britain in third. Jamaica and the US team have both appeared in the event at 11 editions of the Olympic Games, just one behind record-holders Great Britain who have competed at all 12 Games to feature the women's 4x400m relay. Jamaica's total of five Olympic medals is bettered only by the US team's total medal count of 11.

The Jamaicans celebrated the first of two world titles in 2001, but had to wait 14 years to secure their second at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. They finished third at the most recent edition in 2019 behind silver medallists Poland and the victorious US team. In a similar situation to the Olympic Games, Jamaica's total of nine world championship medals is bettered only by the US team's tally of 14.
