General Interest

General
Cuba qualified for Tokyo 2020 by making the final of the 2021 World Relays, where they set the fastest qualification time in the heats and went on to win gold in the final. The Cuban team are making their seventh Olympic appearance in Tokyo, having competed at every edition of the Games since 1992 with the exception of Athens in 2004.

Their best Olympic result is fourth, which they achieved in Beijing in 2008. They originally finished sixth in the final but were promoted two places following retrospective disqualifications of the Russian and Belarusian teams. The Cubans did not qualify for the final at London 2012 or Rio 2016.

At the world championships the Cuban team have never finished higher than seventh, and have not made the final since 2009. They finished with the 13th-fastest time at the 2019 edition of the tournament.
