General Interest

General
Canada made their Olympic debut as hosts of the 1976 Games in Montreal, where they made the final but finished last. Eight years later they won a silver medal at the 1984 Games in Los Angeles, their only Olympic medal to date, after being beaten to gold by the US team. The 2016 Games was their first Olympic appearance since Sydney 2000, and they missed out on the podium in Rio by 0.55s, finishing behind bronze medallists Great Britain.

The 2019 World Championships in Doha saw Canada reach the final, but they were disqualified due to a lane violation. Their best result at the world championships is fourth, which they managed in 1983 and 1987. They also placed fourth at the 2019 World Relays in Yokohama, which was their best performance in four appearances at the tournament.

The Canadians claimed silver at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima behind the US team.
