Japan have competed in the women's 4x100m relay at the Olympic Games on two occasions, finishing fifth in 1932 and 15th in London in 2012.

Japan appeared in the event at five consecutive editions of the world championships between 2003 and 2011, with a best result of 12th in 2011.

At the 2021 World Relays, the Japanese team qualified seventh-fastest from the heats and went on to finish fourth in the final, 0.3s behind the third-placed Dutch team.
