General Interest

General
India qualified for the men's 4x400m relay via the world rankings, and will be making their third Olympic appearance in Tokyo. On debut at the 2000 Games in Sydney they failed to progress out of their heat, and at their most recent appearance in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro they were disqualified from their heat for starting outside the takeover zone.

India have made two world championship appearances in the event, in 2017 and 2019, and failed to make the final on both occasions. They also failed to progress from the heats at their only World Relays appearance in 2019.

At continental level the team have won a slew of Asian Games medals, including two gold and eight silver, with a most recent finish of second at the 2018 edition in Indonesia. They failed to finish the final at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia.
