Trinidad and Tobago qualified for Tokyo via the world rankings, and will be taking part in their eighth Olympic campaign in Tokyo.
They originally won a silver medal at the 2008 Games in Beijing but were bumped up to gold nearly a decade later, after the disqualification of Jamaica due to Nesta Carter's anti-doping violation.
Four years later Trinidad and Tobago crossed the line in third place at the 2012 Games, but were promoted to silver in 2015 following the disqualification of the US team that finished second in London due to Tyson Gay's anti-doping violation.
At the world championships, Trinidad and Tobago have claimed three silver medals, most recently in 2009, but failed to make the final by a single place at their last appearance at the tournament in 2017, missing out to Canada by 0.13s.
