General Interest

General
Ghana contested the 4x100m relay at six consecutive Olympic Games from 1984 to 2004, and are returning for their seventh appearance in Tokyo. They have only progressed from the heats on one occasion, at the 1996 Games, but they did not start the final in Atlanta.

It is a similar story at the world championships, where they have made 11 appearances at the tournament since 1983. They progressed from the heats on one occasion, in 1997, and placed fifth in the final. At the most recent edition in 2019 they finished slowest of the 13 teams that posted an official result in the heats.

Ghana qualified for Tokyo after making the final at the 2021 World Relays, where they were disqualified in the final for passing the baton outside the takeover zone.

At continental level, Ghana won gold at the All-Africa Games in 2019.
