SANCTION
In 2017 he received a 14-month suspension after testing positive for the prohibited substance betamethasone. He claimed to have ingested the substance in painkillers prescribed by a doctor following an injury. The Kenyan Sports Disputes Tribunal [SDT] accepted that he did not have "any intent to cheat or deliberately ingest a substance for purposes of enhancing performance", but found that he should have sought a therapeutic use exemption [TUE] and should have disclosed the medication on a doping control form. The STD also stated that he had relied too heavily on the word of the doctor who prescribed the medication after the doctor said the medication was not an "illegal drug". The Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya [ADAK] had applied for a two-year suspension, but following its findings, the STD decided on a 14-month suspension commencing on 14 September 2017.
