She took up running after she bought a treadmill in order to exercise at home. "There was a fun run in Diepenbeek [Belgium], and I thought it would be fun to participate. I finished second. Having begun competing at age 35, she will be age 38 at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. She says she is glad that she did not take up the sport at a younger age. "If I started running in my teens, it wouldn't have been good for me. I wasn't really happy then, I would have been too hard on myself and I would have lost myself in it in a way that wasn't healthy.
