General Interest

General
LONG-TERM RECORD BROKEN
In February 2020 she broke the Australian women's high jump record that had stood since 1989. She cleared 1.99m at a meet in New Zealand, beating the previous Australian record of 1.98m that was first set in 1989 and then equalled in 1994. (smh.com.au, 28 Feb 2020)

BREAK AND RETURN
She took a year away from the sport after failing to make the Australian team for the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, QLD, Australia. When she returned she began working with coach Alex Stewart. "I was still persistent after [the 2016 Olympic Games in] Rio until March 2018. Then I essentially quit athletics. I didn't compete for a year, I stopped training. There were definitely some low moments. Stepping away from athletics felt like a loss of identity, because it had been my life for so long."
