A teacher at the Kakuma Refugee Camp suggested she take part in a 10km race organised by the Tegla Loroupe Foundation. She performed well despite never having trained before, and began training with the foundation. "I had not been training. It was the first time for me to run, and I came number two. I was very surprised. I didn't know that talent could take me anywhere. I just loved sport." General Interest

General
LEAVING SOUTHERN SUDAN
When she was age eight, she and her family fled the war in southern Sudan and arrived at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya. In 2008 her parents returned home, but she and her siblings remained in Kenya. "The other tribe came at night to attack our village, and some of my neighbours lost their lives because they couldn't escape. I lost some of my friends. My parents and I and some other neighbours managed to escape that night to a nearby town, walking in the bushes for two days." She is an official High Profile Supporter for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR]. In June 2018 she participated at the 5th Formal Consultation on the Global Compact on Refugees, and was a delegate at the 2018 Human Rights Council Social Forum in Geneva, Switzerland.
