"Wherever I went I would run. When I went to fetch something for my mother I always ran because I didn't want to be beaten by her. I just loved running for no reason, but I did not know anything about racing until Tegla [Loroupe] came to the [refugee] camp. I didn't know who she was. I only found out about her medals and her world record later." (mobsports.com, 18 Jun 2021)

General Interest

General
LEAVING SOUTHERN SUDAN
She fled southern Sudan with her aunt at age nine and arrived at the Kakuma Refugee Camp in northern Kenya in 2002. Her parents, her two sisters, and her brother remained in South Sudan and were unaware of Anjelina's involvement in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro until they relocated to Kenya in 2021. "If I succeed [in athletics] I might earn some money to improve the life of my family. My dream is just to help my parents and help my father build a better house. I want people to know that being a refugee is not just it. We are humans too, and can achieve great things at the Olympics."
