OCCUPATION
In February 2021 she began working as a paralegal at a law firm in Sydney, NSW, Australia. "The time pressures of the law and the fact that you may not always be working in your comfort zone are very similar to athletics, where you just have to grit your teeth and get things done. There's an expiration date to a career in athletics. I do athletics because I love feeling fit and seeing what I can do with hard work, and I love the social side of it, but I also love law. So I'll do the grad programme [at her law firm] and see how I can fit my training around that, and if I don't run at an Olympic level again after that, then I'll just keep up athletics [elsewhere]. If you don't do that, it leaves a gap when you retire and you're like, 'I'm not an athlete, so who am I really?' That's where we get a lot of mental health problems for retired athletes."
