COACH CHANGE
In late 2019 he changed his coach from Richard Cote to Christiaan Tamminga, who he believes has helped him develop a technique to reduce the likelihood of injuries. "Myself and Richard started feeling that something was missing and we talked a lot about it. In the end, Richard took the plunge and said that it was better for my development to work with another trainer. Since then I feel that I vault about five per cent differently. An important change is that I always jump straight ahead now. I no longer fall off the mat, which sometimes happened in the past and resulted in injuries." (noordhollandsdagblad.nl, 25 Mar 2020)

DRIVE-IN CINEMA VAULTING
In 2020 he competed in a pole vault competition for a crowd of socially-distanced spectators at a drive-in cinema in Dusseldorf, Germany. "It was special. You actually saw no one, because everyone was in their car. But it was an experience and nice to be competing again. I jumped quite well, but with the bar at 5.40 metres the wind started to blow a lot and the competition had to be stopped for about 20 minutes. After that I could not find my rhythm and clear the height. I love jumping and I enjoy a competition like the one in Dusseldorf even more." (noordhollandsdagblad.nl, 13 Jun 2020)
