THIRD TIME LUCKY
She secured a spot for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo through her performance at the 2021 US Olympic Trials in Eugene, Oregon. She is making her Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020 after missing out on the US team for both London 2012 and Rio 2016. "Crossing that line [at the 2021 US trials] and seeing my name on that board. All of those emotions, everything that I felt, all of the disappointments, every single pain that I felt throughout these years. It all just fell off of me and I was just so full of a joy. It makes it so much better. I told my husband [Kyle Clemons] if I made that team in 2012, I would not have appreciated the way that I can appreciate it now. Fighting my way back and making an Olympic team now, it means the world. To everyone who has had setbacks, to everyone who has had more disappointments than they can count, to everyone who has wanted to give up, to everyone who has lost more than they've won, to everyone who is waiting on a breakthrough: I just want you to see me as a walking testimony of where faith and grit can take you."
