She changed her plans after the postponement of the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She originally wanted to compete in the 3000m steeplechase, but then decided to pursue competing in the marathon at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "We [together with her trainer and partner Michi Ruegg] thought it over carefully. I wouldn't make the change if I didn't feel as though I would be at least as successful in the marathon.
