COMEBACK FROM INJURY
At the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro he had to leave the track in a wheelchair following the men's 4x100m relay final. He had initially injured his Achilles tendon several months earlier, and he would go on to miss much of the following three years through injury. "You've got to have patience and faith. We're human. We break down easily. We're not as strong as we think we are. And that's one thing I had to realise. The hardest part was not being able to do what I love. Track is such a big part of me and my life. What kept me going were the people around me, my faith and mentality. They had to remind me where I'd come from. Only the strong survive, and I had to find that fight again. I had to find that fire." (eu.usatoday.com, 18 Jun 2021, 20 Jun 2021; olympics.nbcsports.com, 07 Aug 2020; worldathletics.org, 21 Sep 2020)

NEW TRAINING GROUP
In 2019 he parted ways with long-term coach Mike Ford to join Rana Reider's Tumbleweed Track Club in Jacksonville, FL, United States of America. He credits the training group's importance in helping his return from injury. "I needed to be in a different environment and to try something new. Rana has strong credentials, the drive and a fierce work ethic. It [training with Reider] is not for the weak. You have to be ready to hurt. I'm not lying to you, sometimes the workouts are so hard, it is difficult to remember them. I would not be back running if it wasn't for this group of great individuals. If coronavirus had not have happened, the world would have seen some amazing performances from the Tumbleweed Track Club. The numbers we were putting up in practice were crazy." (worldathletics.org, 21 Sep 2020)

FURTHER EDUCATION AND FUTURE PLANS
He has studied for a master's degree at Full Sail University in Winter Park, FL, United States of America, and hopes to become a sports agent after his sprinting career is over. "I always wanted to be an agent. I definitely want to help people gain their worth out of whatever talent they have. I feel like a lot of people out there want opportunity and don't have that person to fight for them to get that exposure, to get that recognition for what they're worth, what they were gifted to do. I got my master's degree in sports, marketing and management. So I definitely have a wisdom in the business side of it all. I definitely see myself being a top contender in the agency business, and I also want to do photography." (trackandfieldnews.com, 20 Jun 2021; Facebook profile, 24 Jun 2021)

LOSS
In July 2014 his father died after suffering a heart attack while in hospital. "Any time you lose a parent, it's hard. I didn't have a real strong relationship with my dad growing up, but we were starting to build something the past few years. These are the things that helped me become stronger and give me perspective." (tampabay.com, 31 Jul 2015)
