Her sister Audrey has competed in javelin at the US championships. Her mother Nancy Kindig-Malone was an athlete at the University of Nebraska, while her father played American football at the same college. When she was a child, she caught her foot in between two steps while running up stairs and fell backwards. She broke her right femur at the growth plate just above the knee. She competed in four sports at high school [athletics, volleyball, softball, basketball], but chose to follow in her mother's footsteps and joined the athletics team at the University of Nebraska to compete in the heptathlon. LEARNING FROM RIO EXPERIENCE
She is making her second Olympic appearance at the 2020 Games in Tokyo, having placed 25th at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. "At the time, I was just so wide-eyed and taking everything in and confused, honestly, with what was going on. I just didn't really know what to expect. Now I feel like I've matured in the sport a little bit. I know, for the most part, what to expect. I think overall, I'm just excited to go in and know what to look for. I have a game plan this time. It's important to go in with an idea, but come into it open handed because the more that you really just clench your hands onto something, the more rigid expectations you're going to have, the more pressure you're going to have, more anxiety you're going to have, so we're just trying to alleviate any of those things. My goal [in Tokyo] is to really just honestly do the best that I can and walk away content. TRANSFER TO TEXAS
