Her sister Audrey has competed in javelin at the US championships. Her mother Nancy Kindig-Malone was an athlete at the University of Nebraska, while her father played American football at the same college. When she was a child, she caught her foot in between two steps while running up stairs and fell backwards. She broke her right femur at the growth plate just above the knee.
