POST-OLYMPIC TRIALS ESSAY
After he made the US team for the 2020 Olympic Games at the 2020 US Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR, United States of America, that night he had to complete a 10-page university essay that was due at midnight despite him requesting an extension. "I did not get the extension. In her [his professor's] defence it was out of her hands, because it's the programme that gives the extension. You know that night that I made it to the Olympics, I was grinding until 23:50 to turn in that paper." (si.com, 25 Jun 2021)

ANIME INSPIRATION
He is a fan of anime films, and said a particular scene helped motivate him at the 2020 US Olympic Trials in Eugene, OR, United States of America. "The Naruto movie, 'Clash in the Land of Snow'. Skip to the train scene. She's in his ear saying, 'You can't do this, you're not fast enough'. And he says, 'It doesn't matter, I'm going to give everything I have. I'm going to die before I give up. And I'm not going to give up ever'. That scene replayed in my head [during the 800m at the trials] and I was just like, 'Come on, come on, come on'." (podiumrunner.com, 22 Jun 2021)

EDUCATION
After studying anthropology at the University of California, Irvine, he transferred to the University of Southern California in 2018 to study social change and animation. He then continued at the University of Southern California, studying towards a master's degree in project management. "I transferred from UC Irvine to USC because there were better opportunities academically and in terms of what I wanted to do, which is social change and animation, [that] Irvine couldn't provide for me. And then, track-wise, USC makes champions and I wanted to be a champion." (usctrojans.com, 01 Jan 2021, 30 Oct 2018; LinkedIn profile, 30 Jun 2021)
