He was unsure how he would continue supporting himself after graduating from university, but then in 2020 he joined other post-collegiate throwers at the USA Javelin Project in Birmingham, Alabama, where he began working as a substitute teacher and assistant athletics coach at a local high school. "I had no idea how I was going to make money, how I was going to live, who I was going to live with, and it kind of started to fall into place during that COVID time. I wound up living with five other people in the [USA Javelin Project] group and we all lived in the same house and we made it work. Working at Spain Park [High School] has been a blessing to be a part of that family and gain that support from [Spain Park High School] coach Michael Zelwak and the school as well. I'm a substitute teacher there too, so to walk the halls and hear everybody excited about me chasing my dream, it's just been great."
