Because everyone is running the same event, it gives everyone a chance to bond in a way that was different from anything I had experienced in football or gymnastics. I loved it." CAREER PATH
She studied for a bachelor's degree in chemistry at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in the United States of America, where she competed in cross-country and athletics. She then studied for a master's degree in health education and continued to compete at the University of New Mexico, relocating in order to stay with her coach James Butler. After graduating she turned professional in 2016. In late 2017 she took an extended break from competition before returning to training in late 2018. "I struggled mentally after I won silver at the world championships in London in 2017 as I tried to strive for perfection too much in my training and races, and looked too much at what others were doing. But after I signed up for the Talent Protection Program under USA Track & Field [USATF] with sport psychologist Sean McCann, it helped my career. He told me that there's more than one path to success, and your journey does not have to look the same as someone else's."
