He was overweight as a teenager and people told him to play a sport. His father suggested he compete in shot put. "I hated sport. When the teachers at school sent us to run, I would almost cry. My grades were low in physical education. Every time I had to run some cross-country to get a higher grade I did it, but I was always last, and my classmates were clapping and yelling, 'Here comes the chubby'."
