In February 2019 she sustained a torn anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] in her knee, which required surgery and stopped her competing until January 2020. (expressen.se, 08 Jan 2020; dn.se, 06 Mar 2015; worldathletics.org, 03 Dec 2020)

In 2016 she sustained a thigh injury. (friidrott.se, 09 Aug 2016)

In 2011 she suffered an ACL tear in her knee. She underwent surgery and was out of competition for over two years. (expressen.se, 08 Jan 2020; dn.se, 06 Mar 2015; worldathletics.org, 03 Dec 2020)

She took up athletics around age 14. "I was doing all sorts of activities and sports, including playing football. But my athletics coach wasn't too happy with me playing football. I'd run away from my opponents and when they couldn't catch me, they would aim for my legs instead. The injury risk was too great, so I chose to focus on athletics instead." (gp.se, 28 Jun 2015)
:
"Even if it's tough and hard sometimes, it's so much fun. Athletics is my life, I get to do what I love and it makes me so happy. It's a joy I can spread to others, to those who come along to cheer me on during competitions, to my friends and to my family." (gp.se, 28 Jun 2015)

Swedish athlete Carolina Kluft. "When Carolina retired there was suddenly no one, so I decided to be my own role model. I hope that will get me a long way." (gp.se, 28 Jun 2015; aftonbladet.se, 18 Aug 2015)

Her mother. "You could say she is my role model because she has always encouraged me and fought, even when it's been really tough. I suppose I have taken that with me. There is always a little more to give, even when it's hard." (gp.se, 28 Jun 2015)

"You can always pick the positives out in life, so try and do so each and every day. Try and take yourself out of the bad to see the good. Surround yourself with positive people and try to do positive things to make you happy." (worldathletics.org, 03 Dec 2020)

At the 2015 Swedish Sports Gala she was named Newcomer of the Year, as well as receiving the Junior Achievement of the Year award, for her performances at international level following several years of injury struggles. (idrottsgalan.se, 26 Jan 2016)

INJURY STRUGGLES
After she suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament [ACL] for the second time in her career in 2019, she said she was able to cope with the injury better than when she previously tore an ACL. "The first time it happened I was very young and had never thought that I could be injured that way. I had a very hard time dealing with it. Now [speaking in 2020] I am older and have the experience. I understood that something was wrong and accepted the injury. The rehabilitation was easier than the first time. Sometimes athletics is not always fun and you experience difficult moments but what really helped me was reminding myself why I loved the sport. This acts as a motivation in the healing process. Even when facing a setback you can learn and grow." (expressen.se, 08 Jan 2020; worldathletics.org, 03 Dec 2020)

FAMILY
She is one of eight children, born in Sweden to Gambian parents. Her father left when she was young, leaving her mother to raise her and her siblings. "My sisters and brothers were always there to support me. It wasn't difficult for my mum to bring us up. We were united and helped each other when it was needed." (expressen.se, 08 Jan 2020; whatson-gambia.com, 29 Nov 2015; aftonbladet.se, 24 Aug 2010)
