She switched from running to race walking. "My first coach Evgeny Tarakanov showed me how to race walk, and immediately sent me to a competition. I hadn't trained at all because I just ran before. However, I took second place in the Khmelnytsky region [in Ukraine] at a 3km distance. In 2008, I then went to the final of the Ukrainian Cup in Sumy. I walked the first kilometre very quickly for my age and I was noticed by coach Anatoliy Solomin. He offered me the chance to train at the Brovary Higher School of Physical Education."
