He took up athletics after watching fellow Grenadian Kirani James win gold in the 400m at the 2011 World Championships in Daegu, Republic of Korea. "He [Kirani] showed it's possible for anyone to become a world champion. I always wanted to be a sprinter but I kept getting injured, so my coach and I decided to try another discipline and we chose javelin. It turned out that I was pretty good at it."
