He became interested in sport thanks to this father, who trained in karate and boxing. Before he took up running Amel trained in football and karate, in which he had a black belt. In high school his teacher signed him up for a running competition in Kakanj, Bosnia and Herzegovina, in which all the athletes from his hometown took part.
