He tested positive for the banned substance isometheptene after winning silver in the 20km race walk at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, Colombia. He was able to demonstrate that he had taken medication for a migraine without informing his doctor and that the substance actually impaired his performance due to his asthma, but the IAAF Athletics Integrity Unit suspended him from 27 July 2018 until 13 November 2018. He was also stripped of the silver medal he won at the 2018 Central American and Caribbean Games.
