He comes from a sporting family. His father first signed him up for a football academy, but later Montana met athletics coach Carlos Garavito, who encouraged him to take up the sport. "It was just a hobby at first, but it drew my attention when I saw people training seriously. I was very motivated to continue after the first time I went to Europe for a competition, which took place in Russia when I was 16. The best part of athletics is having a different lifestyle. It has improved the quality of my life and my family as well."
