RIO DISAPPOINTMENT
She says she initially struggled with the disappointment of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where she was forced to withdraw due to injury. However, she says the experience motivated her for the next Olympic cycle for the 2020 Games in Tokyo. "I got injured days before the competition [in Rio]. Doctors told me that I could not compete but I was already there and I opted to at least be on the starting line. I had prepared so much the event, so I tried it and endured the pain for four kilometres. At least I had the experience of being among the best in the world. When I returned to Colombia I was so sad, but many people helped me to overcome it. After Rio I came back with more desire, I started to improve my times, and that helped me to qualify early [for Tokyo]." (runningcolombia.com, 27 May 2020)
