EARLY DAYS
Early in his career he worked two jobs alongside training to make ends meet, before his coach Gjert Ingebrigtsen persuaded him to become a full-time athlete. "I wasn't willing to quit the two jobs I had. I worked on a farm. It was up at 07:30 in the morning, three hours in the barn, out for the first training session at 10:00, recovering a little, in the barn again at 16:00, and out for the next training session at 19:00. It is only a matter of time before you are injured, overworked or ill. In addition, I worked as a shoe salesman, and wandered around on the concrete floor there. Obviously, none of those are optimal in terms of recovering between sessions and getting as good as you want." (nrk.no, 30 Jun 2021)
