His early career was affected by several major injuries. In the European summer of 2010 he suffered from pulled muscles. A year later, in 2011, he missed the entire European outdoor season due to an Achilles tendon problem linked to Haglund's deformity [a bony enlargement that produces inflammation of the tissue near the Achilles tendon], which obliged him to undergo surgery and also miss the 2012 season.
