General Interest

General
FUTURE PLANS
She hopes to compete at a total of five editions of the Olympic Games, but would also like to take some time away from the sport to become a mother. "I want to do athletics for as long as I can, as long as I enjoy it and enter the stadium with a smile. I want to be a mother too. My wish is to go to five Olympic Games - one for each of the Olympic rings. I've been to two now, in London and Rio, and my next one will be Tokyo. After that, I want to compete in Paris in 2024 and in Los Angeles in 2028. Maybe that will be my last Olympics and my last season." (24sata.hr, 26 Dec 2019; worldathletics.org, 20 Aug 2019)

PARTNER AND COACH
Since 2013 she has been coached by her partner Edis Elkasevic. "We started our cooperation as a couple. We knew that it might be difficult, and we have had our ups and downs, but fortunately everything has gone well. We agreed that he is the boss at stadium, and I am the boss at home, and this arrangement works perfectly." (dnevnik.hr, 12 Feb 2020)

POLITICIAN
She spent time as a member of the Croatian parliament but failed to gain re-election in the national vote of September 2016. (tportal.hr, 04 Dec 2015; index.hr, 09 Nov 2015; dnevno.hr, 12 Sep 2016; sabor.hr, 2016)

She claimed she had consumed an energy drink without knowing it contained the substance. She was banned from the sport for six months by the Croatian Athletics Federation [HAS], and became eligible to return to competition in December 2011. (IAAF, 05 Sep 2014)

Milestones

Her gold medal in discus at the 2012 Olympic Games in London was Croatia's first Olympic gold medal in athletics, and Croatia's first Olympic gold won by a female athlete from any summer sport. Four years later she won gold at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro to become Croatia's first female athlete to win more than one summer Olympic gold medal, and the first Croatian athlete of either gender to successfully defend an Olympic gold medal. (SportsDeskOnline, 01 May 2020)

Her gold medal in discus at the 2013 World Championships in Moscow, Russian Federation, was Croatia's first world championship discus gold medal. The medal also saw her become the first female to complete the 'Grand Slam' of discus titles at the world championships, European championships and Olympic Games.
