He lived and trained in Australia in the lead-up to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, supported by the Australian Government's PacificAus Sports programme. He travelled to Australia in 2019 to train at the Oceania Athletics Association High Performance Training Centre in Gold Coast, Queensland, and was due to return to Kiribati in mid-2020 but was unable to due to COVID-19 travel restrictions.
