She suffered regular injuries during her football career. In late 2016, Brondby IF fitness coach Michael Jorgensen asked if she wanted to try running at Sparta Atletik, where he also coached. "During a rehabilitation session, Michael observed me. He asked if I had ever considered competing in running. Athletics training became the highlight of my everyday life, and it dawned on me that I was no longer happy playing football. Even though it sounds very cliche, the most important thing is to be happy with what you do, so I decided to continue with athletics." "It's about being happy. If I'm not, then I'm not doing well either, whether on the running track or the football pitch. My coach knows that too. A happy Ida is a good Ida." (dr.dk, 22 Sep 2017)

SWITCH TO ATHLETICS
She played professional football for Danish club Brondby IF and made two appearances for the Danish national team. At age 21, following a number of injuries, she switched to athletics at the suggestion of Michael Jorgensen, who was a coach at Brondby and Sparta Atletik in Copenhagen, Denmark. "I started training once a week with Michael. I suddenly had one coach who followed me all the time and it gave me a completely renewed self-confidence I had lacked in football in the end. After my first race, I was selected for a camp with the national team in Finland. All of a sudden my time was the next in line when there were a few withdrawals. I thought it was impossible to be selected for the national team after only a month in athletics, but it happened." She says she prefers the individual nature of athletics. "The whole mentality that athletics requires is just a lot more me. The difference from football is that all the training sessions are there for me to get better and it is incredibly satisfying in many ways. I am only accountable to myself if I make mistakes and I think that is easier to deal with." (tvmidtvest.dk, 18 Feb 2018; dr.dk, 22 Sep 2017; fodboldforpiger.dk, 06 Jul 2017)
