Having lost his right eye in 2009, he has had ocular prostheses designed in the colours of the Brazilian flag for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. "I underwent three eyeball reconstruction operations. My zygomatic arch broke and the eyelid tore. Today, I wear an eye prosthesis. When I was younger I was a little afraid to talk to others because I didn't want them to feel sorry for me. For me, the worst feeling there is is pity, and I don't want them to feel that way about me. As I am going to the Olympics, nothing is better than representing my country with my eyes, right? Or rather, my eye. The person who made the prostheses was Fabio Padula, a guy who changed my life, because I thought I would forever have a bad eye. But Fabio is an eye artist and he created a spectacular prosthesis for me, which is the one I use every day. Anyone who sees it thinks the eye is real. For the 2020 Olympic Games, he prepared two special eyes. They are perfect. I've been using one while training in Tokyo.
