His mother had competed in race walking and his father was an athletics coach. "It was inevitable with that influence, but I did spend three years away from walking to dedicate myself to football. In 2007, at the request of my father, I competed in the Copa Brasil de Marcha [Brazil Cup for race walking] and came second in the minor category. This without any training. I participated at the [2007] world youth championships in Ostrava, Czech Republic, and it was in this competition I saw it was time to leave football. Then I started to train hard to be the best." General Interest

General
COACHED BY HIS PARENTS
His mother Gianetti was first introduced to athletics by her physical education teacher, Joao Sena, who she later married. After giving birth to Caio she struggled to get back to her normal weight, and was convinced by Sena to take up race walking, becoming eight times national champion. After playing football as a child, Caio decided to take up race walking seriously at age 16, with his parents as his coaches. "We all share experiences that only sports can give. We have known the world together, during competitions we remain in the same room. How many athletes would like to have their parents that close?" (aipsamerica.com, 11 Aug 2019)

SUSPENSION
In 2018 it was announced by the International Association of Athletics Federations [IAAF] Athletics Integrity Unit that he was suspended for six months after returning an adverse analytical finding with the banned substance bumetanide in an anti-doping test made in 2017. His suspension ran from March to September 2018. (folha.uol.com.br, 20 Jul 2018)

EARLY SURGERY
At age two he required an operation on his knees. "I had a calcium deficiency and there were problems when I started walking, my legs were warped. I had corrective surgery which went well, but the doctors feared the legs would bend again. They did not and I grew normally." (rederecord.r7.com, 28 Jul 2015; brasil2016.gov.br, 03 Apr 2019)
