She was initially a dancer as a child until her mother introduced her to athletics. "As a child, I wasn't too fond of athletics, simply because I thought it was just running, running and more running. And, to be honest, I wasn't too keen on the idea of getting tired either. But then one day when I was little, my mother and aunt told me we going to the movies. I soon realised that they were actually taking me to an athletics track. I tried my luck at hurdles and long jump and found out that I actually really enjoyed it. That following year I signed up for athletics." MOTIVATION
She decided to take athletics more seriously and to pursue it as a career after winning gold in heptathlon at the 2017 World U18 Championships in Nairobi, Kenya. "The world championship in Nairobi was a complete surprise to me, because I was hoping to be a finalist among the top eight, and then I was fighting for a gold or silver medal. I went for it and it paid off. It was a turning point in my life when I realised that 'without preparing, I went to a world championship and won'. I thought to myself: 'Wow, well if I truly want this and I train for it, I might be able to do it'. That's when I decided to enrol at the High Performance Academy [a specialist sports school in Barcelona, Spain] and take it more seriously." (iberdrola.com, 01 Sep 2019)
