WALKING TECHNIQUE
Between 2015 and 2017 he was disqualified from a number of competitions, including the Spanish championships and the U23 European championships. "They were very hard years. The obsession with improving my times made me forget about technique. From then on, all the disqualifications began. I was not aware of my technical faults and, despite going to each competition wanting to improve, I did not reach the finish line because my technique was very poor. It took me a while to accept it and get to work on it. In my opinion it is worse than an injury. The frustration of being disqualified in all competitions because you are not capable of good technique is much greater, and you feel that you are not suited to the race walk. At first I was not aware of this technical failure. I had acquired a vice over the years that was already intrinsic to my way of walking. I was not able to see it for myself. Therefore, accepting that I was not technically sound and focusing on improving that defect has been one of the key aspects in my change. The support of my coach and going to biomechanical studies at the High Performance Centre have also been important. Thanks to technology we have been able to study each movement to the millimetre, to later correct what could harm me." (rfea.es, 08 Jun 2021)

GLUTEN FREE
He had to change his diet after he was diagnosed with celiac disease. "With the change to a gluten-free diet I have improved a lot both in my performance and my health. I am a celiac, so I can't eat any pasta. Luckily, I can substitute it with rice and nowadays we can enjoy a lot of products that have been adapted. The biggest problem is when I travel abroad, I have to explain it very clearly but sometimes it is not easy because not all the countries are so aware of the issue.
