"When I was little I took part in a lot of sports, ballet, swimming, tennis, then at age six my mother signed me up for basketball. I played at regional and national youth level, and I played in the first division with Estudiantes. Then in 2008, the sister of my coach Jorge Marin encouraged me to try a race and I did great." She tried to combine basketball with athletics for a year, but realised it was too difficult and focused solely on athletics from 2010 onwards. (misatletas.blogspot.com.es, 02 Apr 2012)

General Interest

General
ATHLETICS OVER BASKETBALL
She previously played professional basketball in the top tier in Spain before switching to athletics. She says that while athletics is less financially secure, she does not regret her decision. "It is sad because being an athlete is much more unstable financially than being a basketball player. If you are injured or have a bad year, regardless of whether you continue to train or not, your income drops considerably or may even reach zero. It's very unfair, we are very vulnerable. Athletics has given me a lot of good memories, as well as people who are fundamental in my life. I wouldn't change that for anything. It has also given me a lot of frustration and anxiety. I guess that's the price of going to the London and Rio Olympics. Knowing everything, I would choose athletics again." (sportfem.es, 28 Apr 2020)

OTHER ACTIVITIES
In 2015 she began working on a project funded by the Spanish Agency for Health Protection in Sport called Deporte Para la Vida [Sports for Life], which teaches values through sports for children in residential care. "We work on values such as respect for the feelings and rights of others, participation and effort, independence and helping others. In the future, I want to create my own foundation." She also wants to use her position to promote sport for women and girls. "I would like to be able to reach a lot of girls, not just girls from minorities who may feel they have some identity problem, which happened to me. Sportswomen must be made visible and among ourselves we have to take steps forward. One way is to create a platform where different women are spoken to and supported. I would like to be remembered not only as an athlete, but as an advocate and promoter of the positive values of sport." (sportfem.es, 28 Apr 2020; cadenaser.com, 11 Jun 2019)

After graduating from the Complutense University of Madrid with a degree in social work, she studied for a master's degree in socio-educational action with vulnerable groups at the National University of Distance Education, and a master's in social development at the Catholic University of Murcia.
