THOUGHTS OF QUITTING
He considered quitting athletics earlier in his career after becoming frustrated with his lack of progress in the sport. After recording no jumps in three out of his five competitions in 2018, he switched coaches and began training with Andrej Tivontschik, changed university, started meditating, and gave up alcohol for a year. "I started dreaming about the Olympics when I wanted to quit - that was 2016. Now I'm at a point where I can't stop. Now things are really moving forward." (tellerreport.com, 06 Jun 2021; kicker.de, 05 Jun 2021; blog.uni-koblenz-landau.de, 06 May 2020)

He began his bachelor's degree studying mechanical engineering at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, before transferring to the University of Koblenz-Landau in Germany to study environmental technology. (tellerreport.com, 06 Jun 2021; blog.uni-koblenz-landau.de, 06 May 2020)
