In 2019 he withdrew from the indoor German championships due to a thigh injury he had been suffering with since the start of the indoor season. He returned to competition in May 2019. (Facebook page, 13 Feb 2019)

At age 11 he moved to a sports school and joined the local athletics club in Erfurt, Germany, to concentrate on athletics. He began focusing on sprinting at age 15. "It was the best combination of school and sport, which was the biggest reason to take that step. I was over 200 kilometres from home and only got the train home to visit my family on the weekends, which made the first few years a bit of a marathon because of my homesickness."
