"I tried all athletics events when I was younger, except the triple jump and hammer. My favourites were the long jump and hurdles. I actually think my background in hurdles gave me a good grounding in steeplechase. It was when I moved to boarding school in 2008 that I totally focused on distance running." She runs 150-180 kilometres in training each week, and spends time training at high altitude in Iten, Kenya. "At the beginning of 2020 I was in Iten for the 18th time. I believe training at height is essential. I have always had good experiences with altitude training camps. The best athletes in the world train or live at a high altitude." FOCUSING ON SPORT
After completing high school she began studying at Accadis University of Applied Sciences, but soon realised that she would not be able to combine her sporting career and studies. "It would be of no use to me, if I also went to university. I might have secured something else to fall back on, but I would not have managed to progress in running. I would have had to train less than I needed to. To do both at a decent level seemed impossible to me. So I opted for running. Running is my job and a calling." (fr.de, 26 Sep 2019; sportbuzzer.de, 30 Sep 2019)

TRAINING AT ALTITUDE
In preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo she spent most of her time abroad training at altitude. "I have my whole life in two suitcases. I've never been in Germany, at sea level, for more than three or four weeks at a time. And leading up to the Olympics in Tokyo, I will never not be at altitude for longer than four weeks."
