She sustained a pelvic injury in August 2020, which caused her to miss Diamond League meetings in Monaco and Stockholm, Sweden. (sport.de, 11 Sep 2020; sport1.de, 21 Aug 2020; leichtathletik.de, 12 Aug 2020)

She suffered a knee injury in 2018 that kept her out of action for several months and affected her performances at the European championships that year. (tagesspiegel.de, 05 Aug 2018; spiegel.de, 11 Aug 2018)

She began athletics at age five and took part in her first competition, an 800m race, at age six. "I didn't win, but I saw the podium and wanted to be the best." (Nike Running Youtube page, 01 Aug 2018; news.de, 02 Mar 2018)
:
She and her two brothers, Nico and Leo, were involved in a variety of sports growing up. In addition to athletics she also took up tennis, gymnastics and handball. Eventually, she discovered she had the most talent in running. "I've always done two sports a day. I tried everything [in athletics]. I wasn't bad at high jump, but throwing disciplines I wasn't good." (general-anzeiger-bonn.de, 25 Aug 2017; spikes.iaaf.org, 02 Aug 2016)

"In a fast race you can feel your legs burn. When you find your focus completely, it's a great feeling. I just love running on my own. It's just beautiful, I love to go training, to improve myself and get fully involved." (Nike Running Youtube page, 01 Aug 2018; watson.de, 12 Aug 2018)

In 2019 she received the Felix award as Sportswoman of the Year in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. (wdr.de, 13 Dec 2019)

General Interest

General
TRAINING IN THE UNITED STATES
In 2018 she left her German training base and former coach Sebastian Weiss to move to Portland, OR, United States of America to train under coach Pete Julian at the Nike Oregon Project. Following the closure of the project in 2019 she remained in the United States of America and continued to train under Julian. (web.de, 16 Oct 2020; general-anzeiger-bonn.de, 29 Nov 2018)

HIGH EXPECTATIONS
She has been described by numerous German media outlets as the greatest talent to emerge in German running history. "Of course, I'm happy to hear that about me. But I try to not let it affect me and just focus on running. I'm kind of excited by it, but when I run, I do not think about such compliments. I notice the attention I've been getting is greater than before. I am pleased to inspire others by running, but the pressure comes only from me. My own expectations of myself are the greatest." (laufen.de, 03 Aug 2018; general-anzeiger-bonn.de, 29 Nov 2018; spiegel.de, 11 Aug 2018; welte.de, 05 Aug 2018)

KEEPING BUSY
She believes it is important for her mental well-being to maintain hobbies outside of athletics, such as playing musical instruments and ballet. She is also interested in fashion and has worked as a model at the Berlin Fashion Week. "I can not imagine a life without sport, but it is important to engage with other things as well. These things are very important to me on the mental level to compensate, so that I can think about other things than just running. I started ballet at the age of four, now I only take lessons in a dance school for one hour a week. The stretching and strengthening exercises that I do there are also conducive to running." (spiegel.de, 11 Aug 2018; watson.de, 12 Aug 2018; news.de, 02 Mar 2018; welte.de, 05 Aug 2018)

SPORTS JOURNALISM
She has studied sports journalism at the German Sport University in Cologne, and hopes to one day work in the industry. "I could imagine a job as a TV presenter or sports reporter." (watson.de, 12 Aug 2018)
