In June 2005 she broke the femur bone in her right leg after colliding with another athlete while warming up for the 100m at a meet in Athens, Greece. Her parents were both sprinters. As a child she found a national team tracksuit that belonged to her father, and he told her if she wanted one she would have to become a good athlete. "Both my parents were track athletes so I guess it was meant to be, I couldn't escape from it - from a little girl, it was track, track, track. I'm really thankful my first coach saw something in me because I was so skinny, I was running so funny. It started as a joke but then I started to like it, I started to win, and the fire really started. Suddenly it became my job and my life."
