EARLY DAYS
He would train with his older brother Benson when he began distance running, but he found that he was no longer able to keep up after about five kilometres. Benson suggested he should quit the sport and help run the family's mill business instead, so Lawrence started training secretly with his cousin [Kenyan long-distance runner] Luka Rotich while also working for the family business. "It was tough. I thought of the four years I had wasted and I decided to train early in the morning with my cousin and I would open the mill afterwards. I used to ask someone to run it on my behalf when I went for an evening run. Luka introduced me to [Athletics Kenya official] Barnabas Kitilit who guided and mentored my career."
