General Interest

General
FROM KENYA TO KOREA
Born in Turkana County, Kenya, he moved to the Republic of Korea in 2015 after first visiting the country in 2011 to run the Gyeongju Marathon. He changed his name from Wilson Loyanae Erupe to Oh Joo-Han, adopting the family name of coach Oh Chang-Seok, who had encouraged him to make the move. Joo-han's full Korean name translates to 'I run only for Korea'. He was granted Korean citizenship in September 2018 and was eligible to compete for the Republic of Korea from March 2019. "The Republic of Korea gave me an opportunity to change my life. I want to win a medal for the country at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo." (news.chosun.com, 19 Jul 2018; hani.co.kr, 10 Jan 2020; news1.kr, 25 Jun 2015; koreatimes.co.kr, 21 Mar 2020; donga.com, 05 Jun 2020; MBC Sports, 11 Nov 2019; worldathletics.org, 07 Mar 2019)
