FINANCIAL STRUGGLES
In late 2019 she spoke about the financial challenges she had faced after making a coaching change. She said she had to limit the time she spent with her new coach Tuomas Sallinen and cancel a training camp she had planned for January 2020 as she was having to fund her coaching herself. "Money problems started in 2018 when I needed to find a new coach. The two things I wanted to invest in were coaching and training camps. My previous coach was paid by the [Finnish national] federation, so I had a budget gap the size of one person's salary. I used my sponsor money, savings, and prize money to fill in that gap. I have only myself to blame. I have never known how to make money and I have put all my effort into the sport, but that alone is not enough. I haven't thought of quitting at all. No matter how much it hurts I'm going to move forward with what I've got. I haven't done this [athletics] for money and I haven't done this thinking it should be easy."
