WEIGHT STRUGGLES
She was affected by eating and weight issues during her time at high school, with her weight dropping to 38 kilogrammes at its lowest. She says her university coach Akio Harada helped her to overcome the issue. "I weighed myself five times a day. I thought that I gained weight as soon as I finished eating, so I was struggling to reduce surplus weight before I had dinner. It affected me not only physically but also mentally. However, I was able to overcome it thanks to coach Akio Harada who coached me at Rikkyo University. He said to me, 'You have the potential to become a great athlete in the future, so you should build up your body for four years while in university'. When I heard that, I felt relieved, and gradually I was able to properly have three meals a day." (tarzanweb.jp, 14 Jun 2020; mainichi.jp, 31 Dec 2019)
