FOREIGN COACH
After struggling to find a full-time coach in her native Japan, she began working with Czech coach David Sekerak following their first meeting at an international training event in Finland in November 2018. She travelled to the Czech Republic to train with him in early 2019 and again in early 2020, but predominantly communicates with the Czech coach through a translation app on her phone. "I used to wait for someone to support me, but it didn't go as I expected. I realised that it was important to approach someone myself. I immediately sent an email to contact them and went to the Czech Republic alone for a month in February 2019. I don't just say, 'Yes' to what my coach says, instead we talk about it. I try to say what I want to say and tell him my thoughts. Due to the time difference, we often get a reply in the middle of the night just before going to bed. The languages ??we speak are also different. Even so, it's not a pain because it's a deep bond. Last year [speaking in 2020], I was able to get good results. It's a great support for me, and I'm confident in my practice. It's a very good relationship." (sanspo.com, 18 Jun 2020; jiji.com, 21 May 2020; sp.mainichi.jp, 13 Apr 2020)
