General Interest

General
SPEED AND TECHNIQUE
Her main quality in discus throw is her speed. "That doesn't mean I'm not a strong athlete. In my case the technique and speed overcome strength. I'm not a discus thrower with a slow movement that relies on arm strength. The fact is, analysing my physique, I'm not one of the tallest or strongest. The discus throwers from the Americas in general are fast and we depend on speed, while the Europeans, who have different physical make up, are slower and rely on arm strength over movement. In the 2016 season I was a little overweight and that took away from my speed and technical sequence. Now I'm more controlled - fewer sweets, more disciplined and focused in the gym. That seriousness has raised my strength parameters and stabilised my performance above 67 metres. Strength, in my case is complementary to technique and spin velocity." (deporcuba.com, 17 Nov 2019)
